******************** Mabel wanted to go see her daughter Margaret while she was stationed in Germany but Walter did not want to go. Mabel started making plans to go without him and got her passport picture made. After a few weeks Walter realized she was serious, decided to go with her, and got his passport picture made as well. From: Margaret Poole Walter Loren Fagen died as a result of injuries suffered while burning brush. He was using gasoline to help the fire get started and the fire flared up, causing him to get gasoline on himself. He got to a nearby road and finally was able to get someone to stop and take him to the hospital by standing in the road. My father told me this story several times as a reminder never to poor gasoline on a fire. According to Aunt Margaret, Walter knew he was dying and tried to hang on until she could return from Germany. All of Walter's children except Aunt Margaret were with him at the end.
